When I was trying to take this photo, the lady would hardly cooperate. She shifted, moved away, looked away, she was frightened by my camera.
All of that changed when I gave her one peso and 50 cents (close to about 10 euro cents) When I gave her the two coins, she even cooperated. Her hunger could just more than her thoughts.
It's still impressive to me, that in this day and age, people are reduced to having no where to live, no way to feed themselves, and much less to have any comfort in their life. I wonder, what does the future depart for that baby? Certainly nothing pretty. What on earth could he hope for? Could he wish for? A warm meal is about at the top of such a sadly short list of possible things for him. Perhaps a dry place to sleep in for a while.
When society permits such things to occur, when it does such things to another person in the system, and not only does it permit them, but capitalism actually encourages it, it becomes clear that the society is rotten. It's gone to hell, it's simply not working. And it should be torn down.
It is said that a society can be judged by how well it treats those who are in deepest trouble. Well, if this is so, we have failed, miserably. It is time to change, and to start over in a new way which will not let 1% of the population control 98% of the wealth. Fuck capitalism. Fuck the free market. Fuck human greed.
